installing carpet tiles
Carpet tiles need to be prepared and conditioned for installation the same way bamboo or hardwood flooring does. When the tiles are delivered to your home, the boxes need to stay in the room that you plan to install them in, so the material can get acclimated to the temperature and humidity. The floor surface needs to be prepared as well – before installation, make sure that the floor underneath is smooth, dry and free from debris.
You can lay carpet tiles on top of subfloors or other hard surfaces, but not other carpeting. To find the center of your room, snap chalk lines diagonally from corner to corner – X will mark the spot. Installing carpet tiles is easy after that.
Place your tiles in position without removing the backing paper first, so you can get an idea of the dimensions and play around with the pattern layout.
The first row should be from center wall to center wall. Lay the tiles in one direction – some have arrows on the back to help with that. If they don’t, you can draw your own on using a felt-tip marker. If you have to cut any carpet tiles, then use several passes of a carpet knife.
When installing carpet tiles, always work from the center of the room. That way, if there are any flaws in the installation, they will end up around the edges of the room and will be less noticeable.
